A small language model installs with the app and sits in its folder, like any other program. It reads your document on your own hardware, in your own memory, and then it is done. Personal and sensitive information doesn’t go anywhere.
A large model would need a data centre, and a data centre means sending your document away. This one is small enough to run on an ordinary device. It is open weights, so anyone can inspect it. It is not a black box owned by someone else.

Why it is different

- It checks its own work
- Most tools remove what they find and stop. nemodocs reads the finished file again from scratch, through a separate process, including reading the pages as images. If a phone number survived because it was written with dots instead of dashes, it finds it. You get a clear pass or fail before the file goes anywhere.

- Most tools look for things shaped like phone numbers or ID numbers. nemodocs works from who. Confirm the person’s details once, and it hunts every trace of them, in every file you dropped in.

Where does my document go?
Nowhere. There is no upload and no server. The file is read on your own hardware, in your own memory, and then it is done.
How is this different from putting my document into ChatGPT?
Other AI tools, like ChatGPT and Claude, use large language models. These are too big to run on your own device, so they sit in data centres, often overseas. To use them, your document has to be sent there.
nemodocs uses a model small enough to run on your own device. It is given one task. It finds personal and sensitive details, and it removes them. Your document is never sent anywhere.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. The model installs with the app and sits in its folder on your device. Turn your Wi-Fi off and nemodocs still works.
What files does it handle?
Word files, PDFs, spreadsheets, plain text, scans and photographs of pages. It reads the text inside images too, and covers it properly.
Can I use nemodocs with ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Clean the document in nemodocs first, then put the clean copy into whatever tool you like.
Is anything used to train a model?
No. Nothing is uploaded, stored, logged or used for training, by us or anyone else. The details you save sit in a folder on your device. You can delete them at any time.
Do I need an account?
No. Once nemodocs is installed you open a document and go. There is nothing to set up and nothing to sign in to.
What if it removes too much?
Open the compare view and put it back. When it is not sure, nemodocs removes. Too much removed is easy to fix. Too little is not.
Can the redacted text be recovered?
No. nemodocs removes the text itself, and on scans it covers the words properly rather than drawing a box over them. Gone means gone, not a black rectangle with the words still underneath.
Is this the same as de-identification or anonymisation?
Yes. Redaction, de-identification, anonymisation: different names for the same job. nemodocs removes the details that identify a person, then verifies they are gone.
